Sports Crate Perks and Features
While it’s been mentioned above, it cannot be stressed enough: Sports Crate is run by Loot Crate. Why is this important? For one thing, Loot Crate’s thriving business model is clearly working; the company is growing fast, and it’s one of the most popular brands in its industry. Loot Crate knows how to service fans. Yes, the bulk of the company’s experience so far has been with gaming and geek fans; but the fact of the matter is that they have a natural understanding of how to deal with rabid, passionate fanatics that like to celebrate what they love.
Plus, there’s the practical side of it all. Sports may be a new frontier for Loot Crate, but offering a subscription box service certainly isn’t. The scope and range of Sports Crate in terms of its offerings may take some time to widen; but the excellence, accountability and professionalism expected of it are already ingrained and typical of the company’s workflow.
Sports Crate Golden Ticket Sweepstakes
One of the most exciting things about Sports Crate is its Golden Ticket sweepstakes, which subscribers are automatically part of–Season Pass plan subscribers even get two entries that carry over to the succeeding months if not drawn as a winner, effectively doubling their chances of winning. Monthly draws treat fans to special VIP experiences that vary based on the winner’s team of choice; as a subscriber, you find out if you’ve won upon receiving your monthly crate.
Is there a Golden Ticket inside your crate? If so, you may win: the chance to attend batting practice, autographed memorabilia, game tickets to a stadium suite, a ride on the bus with your favorite team, a chance to throw out the first pitch, and more.
Team and Theme
When you subscribe to Sports Crate, the first thing you will have to do is pick the team you are rooting for; after that, you choose between a Recurring Monthly plan or a Season Pass plan. You’ll also have to fill out your shirt and waist size, as a crate will typically include at least one wearable item. Everything sent to you will be connected to the team you pick.
However, that’s not all. You pick the team; Sports Crate picks the theme. Each crate has a specific unifying element; for example, Sports Crate’s July 2019 theme is Round Tripper, which celebrates the fan experience from behind the wheel by sending you road warrior essentials.
Sports Crate – What You Get in Each Crate
Currently Sports Crate offers subscriptions to fans of the following Major League Baseball teams: the Boston Red Sox, the Chicago Cubs, the Detroit Tigers, the Kansas City Royals, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the New York Mets, the New York Yankees, the San Francisco Giants, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Texas Rangers.
Now that we know how the crates are being curated–for fans, by fans; emphasizing both team and theme–it’s time to dive into the nitty-gritty of it all: What do you get in each crate, really? Let’s look at the two plans available: the Recurring Monthly and the Season Pass.
Both the Recurring Monthly and the Season Pass crates contain five to seven items–all authentic, officially licensed and exclusive Major League Baseball apparel, collectibles and team gear. Apparel can be anything from socks or hats, to shirts or boxers. Often, you will get exclusive Baller action figures; other collectibles may come in the form of baseball cards or other usable accessories. Crates also come with intangibles, like the automatic Golden Ticket entries. Each monthly crate will vary slightly, and may include other freebies. For example, the July 2019 Sports Crate includes a one month free trial of MLB.tv and a 2019 All Star Pack for the mobile game Home Run Derby.
In addition to the extra sweepstakes entry and the 10% crate price discount per month, Season Pass plan subscribers also get an extra action figure. An extra fact about these action figures: No, they are not the usual bobblehead toy with a static body and moving head; rather, they are smaller but easier to pose, with over 20 points of articulation.
Sports Crate Pricing
As Sports Crate services–as of this writing–only Major League Baseball fans, the monthly crates only get shipped out during months that the sport is in season: May to September. Two plans and shipping included in the cost of either means that there are easy to remember price points for both: Recurring Monthly at $39.99 and Season Pass for $179.99.
Recurring Monthly has you pay per individual crate; the subscription automatically renews each month, although you can contact Sports Crate and cancel anytime. Season Pass is inclusive of all five crates from May to September, and the 10% discount on each crate amounts to almost $20 in savings–if you were to compare it to being on the Recurring Monthly plan for five months.
Sports Crate Customer Support
It’s been mentioned above, but it bears repeating: customer support needs improvement. Not only does Sports Crate share with Loot Crate a curious lack of ways to directly contact the company–your only option is to submit a ticket; no hotline, no email, no live chat–but its FAQ and Help Center is raw and underdeveloped. Because it’s a relatively new brand, even checking social media rarely helps; even though they are starting to build a respectable Facebook, Twitter and Instagram presence.
What's the Verdict on Sports Crate?
Sports Crate Review 2020 – Conclusion
With Sports Crate, many of the complaints are due to shortcomings that will no doubt be addressed as the demand for the service grows; so it’s difficult to come to a final conclusion. For example: As of this writing, there are hints on Sports Crate’s official website and social media channels of more Major League Baseball teams being added soon, and down the line, maybe even more major league sports teams–like those from the NBA or NFL. The FAQ and Help Center is also easy to update; in fact, it may be bare right now because there are not many queries and tickets coming in needing clarification. Because it’s affiliated with Loot Crate, good service is to be expected; all you need to figure out is if the $39.99 price tag for one crate is worth it for you–assuming you’re a fan of one of the 10 baseball teams Sports Crate works with, of course. If it is, take the plunge, and who knows? You might even get a Golden Ticket.

hi, it’s me again.well it’s been 22 months now that sports crate has had my money. i am sure that they have smoked through my 180 bucks long ago. but still they owe me “gear” and still won’t give a refund for missing “gear”. and when i write and complain, they just tell me i have to wait. they don’t have it yet. i could have learned how to hand carve the figures by now. i don’t know how many of these they sold, but i don’t see how any of us would go through this again. i guarantee no one does this twice. sports crate is an abortion gone wrong. it lived!
i paid 179.99 in april of 2017. it is november 18, 2018 and still haven’t received all my 2017 gear. i’ve fought with them for over a YEAR now to complete my order. every crate was at least a month late. the “gear” as they call it would not be purchased on purpose by a sober individual. it’s junk! i went back and forth with the bbb for three months before i found out that the bbb is utterly worthless. if you deal with the bbb, the only thing they can do is let sportscrate know your unhappy. so the bbb is a worthless move. the final gear has not been issued to anyone who paid in full for over 19 months. and they will not issue a refund for gear not received. we have all been told to just wait. so if you can afford to wait forever, or expect to never get your paid for product, lootcrate is a place that will STEAL your money and smile, and there’s nothing you can do about it.
They are always late. Have been for over a year. Their customer service is a joke. Zero communication. If you are lucky enough to get a response it is ‘We sent an email and a partial refund last month. Did you receive it?’ Then nothing. Massive waste of money. They even turned off their comments and ratings on their FB page. SCAMMERS!
I have been trying to locate some sort of customer service information for Sports Crate. It is almost impossible. I Joined in March and have yet to see a box. There is no clear way to find out when a box will be mailed or if you cancel your subscription does that mean you won’t get the box you should have received. Not impressed with Sports Crate at ALL!!
Hi Lee Ann,
If you need to get in touch with them, just scroll down and click on the FAQ & Help Center link. Once redirected to the Help page, click on the Submit a Request link on the upper right of the page. Sadly, that’s the only way you can reach them though–no phone or live chat support. Hope that helps!
they have a customer service…. phone# 1-323-999-5353. they tell us to only make one phone call or one e-mail so they don’t get backed up. if they answered them they wouldn’t be backed up. call and e-mail hundreds of times please. they aren’t doing their jobs by getting us our product, so they should have plenty of free time. let’s give them something to do!
They don’t ship on time or at all. They don’t live up to their promises on the number of or quality of the items. Their customer service is the worst. They still owe stuff from last years MLB season and don’t care. Only one box last season was delivered during the month promised. They got so far behind they quit naming the boxes after months and switched to numbers. And again, they don’t care. Other than that they are fine.
Holy cow people go to Facebook and read the comments on sports Crate page!! Hey don’t deliver and if you signed up for the season pass the bonus figure hasn’t even shipped yet!! Excuse after excuse!! It was to ship at the end of the season in 2017!! Newest email says June of 2018 after the 3 other dates didn’t happen!! Customer service is nonexistent this is not a good service. Only one box last season was received in the month it was to be. All other months were never on time and last one was over a month late!!
what about the gear was exclusive to sportscrate only. their giving it away for pennies in their new sports vault. the crap is not wanted by anyone who is sober. and i’ve never been f****d up enough to buy any of this sh**.
