Perks and Features
Trunk Club doesn’t call itself a subscription service, though the idea is similar because they send products via mail. Trunk Club carries premium men’s and women’s clothing–everything from work clothes to fitness wear. The best part, especially for people who don’t enjoy shopping: you don’t have to browse and look through every single item in their inventory to find something that you like. Leave that to your Trunk Club personal stylist! Let them know if there’s anything specific you’re looking for, and then just wait for their recommendations.
Getting Started
Signing up is completely free. You can create your online profile by going to the site or downloading the Trunk Club app on your iPhone or Android. Either way, you will have to answer a quick survey that gathers information about your size and body quirks, style and color choices, and spending and shopping habits. After that, you will be introduced to your personal stylist, who will then put together a trunk and email you a preview of its contents with matching item price tags. Once you sign off on the preview, your trunk will be shipped.
Clubhouse Appointments
Another service Trunk Club offers is one-on-one, real-life appointments with your stylist in Clubhouses in Boston, Charleston, Chicago, Dallas, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, and New York City; which you can schedule via phone call or email. Along with your complimentary visit, you will get a complimentary drink from the bar; which you can enjoy while your stylist shows you a selection of clothes based on your preferences. You may try everything on and take your favorites home on the same day.
What You Get in Each Trunk
This is really between you and your stylist. As previously mentioned, trunks don’t ship until you completely sign off on everything that’s in it. And because you can preview not only all the items but their prices, as well, it’s practically a guarantee that you will like everything in your trunk–all that’s left is to figure out if they fit you well. Think of a trunk as a whole lot of items that you’ve chosen at a store; and your home as a very comfortable, very convenient fitting room. That’s what being a Trunk Club member is like.
Terms are very agreeable and customer-friendly: try everything on, keep what you like, return what you don’t within five days. Any items that are damaged, have tags removed, or look worn out will be charged to your account (along with the charges for items you’ve kept) even if you return them. You can do this as often as you like–there is no set time interval. You can request trunks monthly, quarterly, or even just for special occasions like wedding parties or a particularly important job interview. Each time, you can specify what you’re looking for and get great options to try on for size.
Pre-paid return labels and boxes are also provided for the free and easy return of items you don’t want to hold on to; and if you feel like you need more than five days to make up your mind, just let Trunk Club know and they’ll work out an extension for you.
Pricing
There is no sign-up fee and no styling fee; just a $25 home try-on fee for each trunk sent to you, which will be credited toward whatever you choose to keep. Items will be charged to your account once Trunk Club receives your returned items. Shipping is free both ways.
As for the prices of the items themselves, it depends on what you choose to keep and buy. Trunk Club carries an inventory of ready-to-wear brands and items similar to what’s available at high-end department stores such as Nordstrom, which places most of their offerings in the $100-$300 range. That said, spending preferences are also part of what your personal stylist takes into account when choosing items for you; so there should be pieces in your price range in each trunk.
Clubhouse appointments are always complimentary. You’ll be charged for everything you want to bring home upon checkout.
Customer Support
Trunk Club has a very helpful FAQ section on their website, which tackles nearly every area of concern customers may have about the company’s products and services. You can easily browse through each category or use the search engine to find answers to your questions. For concerns of a more pressing nature, you can also try their email, phone and live chat support options; or you can communicate with your personal stylist, should your concerns involve trunk selection or other styling questions. Trunk Club is also on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram; you can follow them for latest news and updates.
