Best Shared Hosting Reviews 2019

Sharing is caring; a philosophy that extends even to web hosting services. To help bring down expenses while maintaining the quality of the server’s performance, instead of paying for the whole system, it is shared by several clients. This is a great option for websites with small to medium traffic, and for those who have very little resources to run their digital pages. But with shared web hosting services popping up left and right, how do you choose a provider that is both reliable and affordable — and meets all of your requirements? Lucky for you, we already did all the work involving research in the service, so you don’t have to.

Also, here are some important things we looked at for our rankings.

Uptime Performance

A major criteria that you should look into when looking for a shared web hosting provider is their record of uptime performance. Having multiple downtimes can lead to some devastating opportunity losses, so it is imperative that your website is live and accessible to visitors at all times. The industry standard for this is actually very high at 99.9%, and any web hosting service which has a lower rating is considered sub-par, and needs to step up their performance.

Bandwidth Allocation

To put simply, bandwidth is the amount of data that you and your visitors can upload and download, which usually has a monthly allocation. If your website happens to use all of the allocated bandwidth before the end of the service month, then it would not be able to accept many more visitors, and you will have to wait until the next month to resume services, or you may have to pay for the excess data your website is using. You may want to check on your expected traffic and discuss this item with their support team to ensure that you will not be incurring additional charges to excess usage.

Storage Allocation

You may also want to check on the storage space that you can use for your website's data and other files. If you are expecting your website to receive minimal to medium traffic, then an allocation around several gigabytes should be more than enough; however, do keep in mind that you should be able to have expansion options should your website grow and enjoy high traffic from visitors. Some providers advertise unlimited storage space, but this comes with a normal usage clause, so you may also want to read the fine print of the service before making a final commitment.

Price

Shared web hosting has one of the most budget-friendly prices in all of the web hosting categories, and it is deemed the perfect solution for small businesses and individuals who have very little to spare for their digital pages. But before jumping on to the cheapest plan that you stumble upon, you should also check for the difference in features that each service has to offer. You may be surprised to find out that you can enjoy a whole set of useful features just by adding just a little more. Moreover, some providers offer discounts automatically or through promo codes, so you may want to look into that as well.

Support

There are times when you will be experiencing issues with the web host, and as with any other service, receiving solid support from the provider's team is vital. No matter how big or small the problem is, the support team should be able to inform and assist you in doing troubleshooting steps in order to fix the issue. Most web hosting services open their lines 24/7 for customers to be able to contact their representatives at any time, which is a good assurance that any issues can and will be resolved as soon as possible.

  • Thank you, good folks at Comparakeet, for these valuable and helpful reviews! The only problem is that there’s just too much info for me to process! I’m itching to begin building my first site ASAP, but cannot decide on which host to choose — they all have their pros and cons. And who knew there were so many hosting companies out there? Seems like there’s a separate hosting company for each individual site on the Internet! Again, thank you for these great and helpful reviews — I truly appreciate the time and effort you put into this project. (And I like parakeets, too, the noisy little buggers!)

    • Hi Danny,

Yeah — it is a lot to take in, and it can get confusing at times. There are simpler web hosting services like FatCow, but you’ll get more mileage in the long run with BlueHost. They offer a lot of features — which might be hard to digest at first, but it’s worth it. 🙂
